We were approached by ASM (A leading manufacturer of Airfield Signs and White Line Marking) who were searching for a product suitable for effectively cleaning white line markings on Runways and thresholds. In conjunction with them and the cooperation of BAA and others "Rubberaser " was developed. It was fully tested in Leeds University Laboratories over simulated times and strengths to demonstrate runway degradation over the years. Subsequently further tests were carried out by STATS and DERA and approvals gained for its use by Thames and Trent Water authority. Since the early tests various airports in the UK, Europe and the Far East have been successfully treated with Rubberaser. The Method 1) Using specially adapted cleaning vehicles, apply the product to the affected surfaces by spray booms or equivalent 2) Allow product to naturally attack the reverted rubber for 5-10 minutes. 3) Agitate with a bristle brush 4) Wash off with a 50 - 1 solution with clean water 5) Remove water and residue with a 'power vac' (as the product is environmentally friendly some water seepage is acceptable) D) Specifically adapted machinery is now available in the UK to use in conjunction with Rubberaser and the design modifications are available to adapt current machinery for its specific use (Further details are available from Vindotco or ASM).
